flask owner

Hi All, I'm glad you have found our web site Crazy 4 Flasks www.flask-s.com and hope that you will order one or more of our products on this visit or when the need arises in the future. We are a small American based business competing with the Amazon's and Ebay's of the world for your purchase.

The only way we can do that effectively is to listen to our customers so feel free to email us with ideas, issues or feedback. We aim to continually improve and to continually bring you the best selection of flask products possible. At the moment we have over 200 flask products available made of the finest quality products – leather, pewter, stainless steel.

We, also, try to offer a range of sizes. Starting at the smallest of small, you will find our keychain flasks which contain a swallow. Moving up from there we have one, two, three shot holders. Our largest flask by far is our 18oz’er. Most of our products can be engraved to make them the perfect flask for you or for that someone special that you are buying for.

One final thought, many of our flasks are used to carry alcoholic beverages. As adults it is our duty to society to adhere to strictly enforced drinking policies and regulations that vary by state and jurisdiction. So have fun safely. May the party live on. We look forward to doing business with you.

How Many Shots to Flasks Hold?

We get asked this question a lot and basically there are five categories or groupings of flask sizes. As a rule of thumb: smaller flasks are generally used by woman or for activities where you will not be out for long periods of time. The 4-5 ounce size is also more typically used by women and thought of as a personal flask. The 6 ounces flask is a common size and is used by a man as a personal flask and often used for sharing with a friend when carried by a woman. The 8oz flask is more typically used by a man if planned for solo consumption, though it contains enough to enable sharing. It can also be used singularly by men or women for all day consumption. The larger than 8oz flasks are suitable for sharing amongst friends.

The size flask that you decide to purchase is a personal decision based on how much you drink, over what period of time you will need to drink, if you have access to refill your flask and whether or not you plan to be sharing. We recommend having multiple sizes on hand so that you always have the perfect flask for whatever your needs may be.

3oz Flask: 2 Shots or Less

4-5oz Flask: Little less than 3 Shots

6 oz Flask: 4 Shots

7-8oz Flask: Little less than 6 shots

8oz Flask: Typically 6 shots or more.

NOTE: A shot is the equivalent of one and ½ ounces.

History of the Flask

Most of the readily found information regarding the history of flasks starts at about the 18th century. We at Crazy4Flasks believe that actual flask usage started much earlier and started on multiple continents using different materials depending on the locale. For instance pig bellies where used where pigs were readily available, other notable mentions are varieties of hard fruits and leather hides. The Greeks, Romans, Celts, Scotts all carried some sort of ancient flask that led to the 18th century phenomenon of elite male flask ownership. In some ways, things have not changed much – the flask is still a common accessory. However, there have been some noteworthy changes worth mentioning:

1) Original flasks were made of glass, leather and/or silver. Today flasks are more commonly made of stainless steel. Stainless steel does not corrode or rust and is readily engravable so makes for a sturdy long lasting flask. Interestingly, people thought that the silver in the silver flasks made the liquor taste better. Today, silver flasks are collector’s items.

2) Though flasks were traditionally thought of as a man’s accessory, today flask ownership is now commonplace amongst men and woman.

3) Most flasks now come with a captive top that was invented to make sure that one did not lose the cap. You can see how this may be a problem with flask ownership. With the captive top, you are less likely to have to replace your flask.

4) Flasks now come with funnels and shot cups to make filling the flask and sharing the contents just a bit easier.

5) Flasks are now given as gifts because they can be engraved which makes them a extra special when given to a friend or family member.

6) You can now find flasks in varying sizes and colors, whereas, the selection use to be pretty limited. Today you can find a one once keychain flask or and 85 ounce mega ton flask. Flasks can range in color from hot pint to lemon yellow.

7) Flasks have moved from being a functional accessory to a very personalized stylish accessory with many people owning more than one flask. If you have any thoughts or knowledge of the history and evolution of the flask, we’d love to hear from you.

How to Clean a Flask

No one thinks about cleaning a flask when they buy the flask. In fact, it’s not until after you use the flask, that most think about cleaning it. Liquor itself once bottled in a distillery has a long shelf life. In a flask, however, it lasts a matter of days - due to change in temperature, exposure to air, and movement which may bruise it.

Note: there is also the thought that once the alcohol is in the flask, it should be consumed that same day. No matter the situation, eventually every flask owner ponders the question of cleaning the flask. The small mouthpiece makes it virtually impossible to use any cloth or scrubbing utensil so how’s it done? Here are some suggestions that should help you in a pinch:

Soap – Outside only. Do not use soap on the inside it is likely to leave a residue in the flask and sour the taste of future contents.

Vinegar – Plain white vinegar has been used as a cleaning agent for years. It’s inexpensive and easily found. The smell is pungent so take a deep breath prior to cleaning and trust that the smell goes away. Rinse and leave open (preferably upside down) so that the flask drains and dries completely prior to recapping.

Lemon Juice – If the smell of vinegar is a bit much to bear, lemon juice is a bit more expensive but should do the trick just as well. Rinse and leave open (preferably upside down) so that the flask drains and dries completely prior to recapping.

Baking Soda – In a pinch, a pinch of baking soda mixed with hot water and then used to rinse your flask should keep your flask in good condition. After the baking soda treatment, make sure you rinse with hot water and leave the flask open and upside down to dry.

Good old hot water – If you are not changing content types and you alone have been drinking from the flask, a good bit of boiling water may be all you need. Remember to air dry upside down if possible prior to recapping.

Flask Size Matters – When buying a flask, how do you know what size is best for you?

In order to answer this question which many have asked before, keep the following questions in mind.

What will you keep in the flask? If you are carrying water or sports liquid, you may want a larger flask than if you are carrying alcohol. If the primary purpose is replenishment of fluid lost, you are probably going to want a larger flask. If the primary purpose is carry alcohol, you may not need something quite as large.

How many will drink from the flask? If the flask is for you alone, you may need a smaller flask than if you intend to share. How much will you drink?

Shot’s per Flask
3 oz 2 shots
6 oz 4 shots
9 oz 6 shots
12 oz 8 shots

Where will you keep it? Does the flask need to fit in a pocket, purse or other container that may dictate the size of the flask? Is the flask a gift? If so, what would the recipient’s requirements be (see questions above)?

Do you want the flask engraved? If so, some flasks have one vs two or three lines of engraving. Typically, the larger the flask the more you can have engraved on it. Some of our flasks have the ability to engrave three lines with twenty characters each, others allow only three characters.

How to Carry a Flask

We’ve asked many a folk where they carry their flask and the answer is different if we ask a man vs a woman.

For men, the top three areas they carry the flask are in their breast coat pocket of a jacket, in their front pant pocket of trousers – typically, jeans are too tight for this, or in the top of their boot.

For woman, a purse or pack of some type is most common followed by jacket pocket. An honorable mention goes to those who have made or purchased contraptions to carry their flask discretely on person (i.e. garter belt, waist strap, etc.)

3) Personalized Money Clip – Money clips make great gifts because they can be easily engraved to add meaning. Often they become heirlooms.

4) Home Depot or Lowes Gift Card – Most Dads spend lots of time in these stores. Most Dads like the time they spend in these stores. Most Dads would appreciate the gift card and use it.

5) A tool – Look at your Dads tool chest. Many of the tools could probably stand to be replaced and that there may even be a few missing you could add to the collection.
